UCLan bucks national higher education sector trend

Student satisfaction at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has risen with more than eight out of ten students saying they are happy with the quality of their overall educational experience.

The results of the latest National Student Survey released yesterday, 3 July, highlight how UCLan’s overall satisfaction rating has significantly increased by 4% and is now 83%.

All academic areas have seen an increase in satisfaction since last year. UCLan’s success has seen the institution buck the trend across the higher education sector with increased rates of satisfaction in all 26 University related questions against a sector average of 10.

"I’m absolutely delighted with our results as they are testament to the hard work of everybody involved with the institution."

Learning resources is now at 87%, learning opportunities has risen to 84%, while both assessment and feedback and the teaching on my course have each increased by 2%. The areas of academic support and organisation and management have improved by 4%, while student voice has risen by 3%.

UCLan’s results also mean the institution is above the higher education sector average in seven of the 10 key areas including learning opportunities, academic support and assessment and feedback. These three areas are critical to enhancing the student experience.

Dr Lynne Livesey, UCLan’s Joint Institutional Lead, said: “I’m absolutely delighted with our results as they are testament to the hard work of everybody involved with the institution.

“We have seen significant improvements across the board and I’m especially pleased to see the increases in students’ overall satisfaction, academic support, and organisation and management. We’ve made enormous efforts to improve these areas and it’s fantastic to see our hard work has been rewarded.

“We are particularly proud to be above the sector average in the key areas of learning opportunities, academic support and assessment and feedback as these are essential to the student experience.

“Students are at the heart of everything we do, and these results demonstrate how we not only listen to our students, but that we act on what they tell us. The creation of the multi-million-pound student social spaces within the Preston Campus is a thriving example of that feedback in action. It’s critical we don’t rest on our laurels and we stay fully committed to listening to students’ feedback and continue to build on the excellent work we are doing to improve the student experience.”
