New policing and criminal investigation graduate lands dream job at Lancashire Constabulary

Special Constable Levi Woods has her sights set on an arresting future.

The new University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) graduate has beaten off tough competition to land her dream job as a police officer in her home county.

Levi, 21, had her sights set on being a police officer from a young age.

She joined the police cadets at Preston’s College and went on to become a Special Constable based in Blackburn.

After discovering how difficult it was to get into her chosen career, she enrolled on UCLan’s two-year foundation degree in policing. After successfully completing that course, she moved on to the BSc (Hons) Policing and Criminal Investigation.

"It is so competitive; just to get through the initial stage was great. There is only one recruitment window a year and it is very hard to get a job in Lancashire."

Levi, a former Lostock Hall Academy pupil, said: “I've wanted to be a police officer since I was about 10 or 11 and being a Special is something I have really enjoyed.

“I like doing different shifts and helping people, making a difference to other people’s lives is very rewarding. You come across people from all walks of life and that’s another an interesting part of the job.”

The 21-year-old has landed a plum job with Lancashire Constabulary after undertaking a gruelling interview and admission process.

She said: “It is so competitive; just to get through the initial stage was great. There is only one recruitment window a year and it is very hard to get a job in Lancashire.”

Levi is continuing in her Special Constable role until she takes up her new post later this year.

She added: “I am really lucky to have got a job, especially in Lancashire, as there are around 1,000 applications for every 100 jobs.”
