5 January 2016

Two University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) Honorary Fellows have been recognised in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List.

Lady Milena Grenfell-Baines and Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire Peter Mileham have been awarded an MBE and OBE respectively.

Lady Grenfell-Baines, who became an Honorary Fellow of the University in 2012, has been acknowledged for her services to music through her work as a fundraiser and patron for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra spanning 40 years.

"Both Lady Milena and Peter Mileham have made a significant contribution to the local community in a variety of ways. To be recognised in the 2016 New Year’s Honours List is a fantastic accolade."

The 86-year-old who was given the Freedom of Preston last year and has lent her support to UCLan’s £200m Campus Masterplan, said: “It was a huge surprise and I had to keep quiet about it for some time. I’ve always encouraged people to come along to classical concerts and we particularly need a younger audience to keep classical music going.”

Deputy Lieutenant of Lancashire Peter Mileham has been awarded an OBE for services to the community in Lancashire. He has been an Honorary Fellow of UCLan since 2009 and was the High Sheriff of Lancashire in 2011/12. He is also an ambassador for Royal Preston Hospital cancer charity Rosemere Foundation and a Citizens in Policing ambassador for Lancashire Police.
