It was at UCLan where Lucy's interest in her family's potato business blossomed into her running the company herself.

Like many of the business degrees UCLan offers, Lucy took full advantage of taking a placement year to provide her with real world business experience. It was her placement which confirmed her desire to take the reins of her family business.

"The tutors were a huge part of this, they were really helpful. In particular a module about preparing for the future was exceptional," Lucy explains.

"I have seen what a placement can do for an individual's CV and how experience can help them succeed when they are within the company on placement."

Since graduating, Lucy is now General Manager of Cheshire Farm Chips. She is responsible for all the members of staff, driving sales, planning marketing campaigns and developing new products. She supplies products for some of Britain's biggest supermarkets such as Waitrose, Spar and Booths.

"UCLan has given me confidence that I could only dream of having prior to going to University. The day I got my final results and graduated gave me such a sense of pride."
