Clearing is for applicants who've received their exam results but don't yet have a confirmed place. The Clearing process helps match applicants to university places that haven't been filled. Q: What is UCAS Extra?

UCAS Extra 2024 is now closed. UCAS Extra is an option that allows you to add more choices to your UCAS application. The free service is for anyone who has currently used all five choices on their application, and holds offers for none of them. UCAS Extra can help you secure a place at a university before the Clearing period. To find out more, you can visit our UCAS Extra page .

Q: What if I get better grades than I was expecting?

If your grades were better than you expected, you can choose to decline your place and release yourself into Clearing. You can do this by using the 'decline your place' button in your UCAS application. You're able to do this from 5 July if you are holding a firm unconditional place.

Q: When does Clearing close 2024?

Clearing officially closes on UCAS on 21 October 2024. Clearing closure dates vary depending on the university you apply for. Courses may also close when they are full. The University of Central Lancashire's Clearing deadline is Monday 23 September 2024.

Q: Can I apply through Clearing if I am an international student?

International students can register their interest in Clearing to find a place at university this September. For more information, please visit our international students webpage .

If you need to go through Clearing then don’t panic. I know it’s not nice to change your plans, but just do your research and be open to universities you hadn’t considered before. It could turn out even better than you expected; it did for me.

Frequently asked questions about Clearing

Entry requirements for courses during Clearing can vary. We offer a variety of routes into university study including courses with a foundation year. We encourage you to call us to explore your options.

If you already have your qualifications, you can view our UCAS Points Calculator to work out how many UCAS points you have. If you don't quite meet the UCAS points for your course, don't worry as there are many different options available to you.
