Not sure how to apply for university accommodation? Our team are here to help and support you every step of the way.
How you apply for accommodation with us depends on whether you have accepted us as your firm or insurance choice through UCAS.
Firm choice means you have confirmed your place with us. Insurance choice means we are your second choice.
Firm choice
Have you confirmed us as your firm choice? If you're joining the University for the first time we will contact you with your unique registration number. You can then apply online via our portal.
If you are joining us in September, we will usually open bookings and contact you in the March before you start. This is when our booking portal opens for the next academic term.
Once you have applied for accommodation we will get back to you with an offer. When we send an offer for accommodation, you will need to pay at least £250 as a reservation fee/pre-payment.
Please be aware, if you do not have a guarantor, you will need to pay accommodation fees in full before you start. Please do get in contact if you need extra support and guidance on funding and financial support.
When applying, you should apply for either:
-
Our owned/leased accommodation;
or
-
University-registered private accommodation.
Applying for both types may delay the application process.
Insurance choice
You will receive information about accommodation in August.
You will be able to apply for accommodation once you have completed the following:
- Accepted a place on a course
- Paid your tuition fee deposit
- Met any academic conditions.
You can apply for accommodation using only one of the following methods:
- For accommodation that is owned and managed by us, you can apply online.
- For accommodation that is owned by private landlords, contact our private accommodation team.
Please note that we only add properties to our official register that suitable. For more information contact the private accommodation team.
If you want to live in halls whilst studying a postgraduate course, we have lots of suitable places for you to stay. Where possible, we group postgraduate and mature students together. We are always happy to discuss your requirements.
If you wish to live in one of our leased halls with other postgraduate students can try to arrange this for you. Please email us to find out more and apply.
You may have a sponsor who will be responsible for paying your accommodation fees. If so, please ensure that you provide written confirmation to our Accommodation Service from your sponsor. This needs to be before you accept any accommodation offer.
International students
Under student visa regulations there is a maximum amount of your accommodation payments that can be reflected on your CAS.
You may choose to pay the total accommodation charge. If so, you must ensure that you are still able to meet UK Visa and Immigration (UKVI) maintenance requirements. You need to show that you have enough funds to support yourself after paying all your accommodation fees.
Full UKVI regulations and other important information is on the Government website.
If you have booked accommodation and do not get a visa we will refund accommodation fees paid. This is on a pro-rata basis. You should contact us immediately if you get a visa refusal. You will need to provide documentary evidence of this.
